Orbital Disease Education and Research Foundation

The Orbital Disease Education and Research Foundation sponsors clinical and laboratory education and research for physicians undertaking training in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases which affect the orbit (bones and tissues surrounding the eye). The Foundation funds research projects, education, national and international meetings for Medical Students, Residents, Post-Graduate Fellows and other physicians who have expressed an interest in diseases of the orbit. The Board of Directors is composed of four internationally recognized surgeons who represent four major institutions in New York City: Columbia University - College of Physicians and Surgeons, Cornell University Medical College, New York University School of Medicine, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Diseases of the orbit may be traumatic, congenital, or acquired. They include such important ones as cancer of the eyelids and orbit, and Thyroid Eye Disease. The Foundation sponsors frequent meetings, laboratory and clinical research on the prevention and treatment of these diseases. Most recently the Foundation co-sponsored an International Meeting devoted to Orbital Disease, taught by world experts and attended by over 300 physicians. The Foundation is also proud to have supported the development of the International Thyroid Eye Disease Society (ITEDS) www.thyroideyedisease.org. ITEDS is an international organization devoted to the treatment of TED and conducts clinical research and teaches seminars to improve patient care.
